TOP FIVE: DISTURBED!

Band Name: Disturbed

Genre: Metal

Cons: You might find their songs really "disturbing" but didn't their band name warn you already about what their songs might make you feel? If you ain't some rock music/heavy metal/metal music fan then their songs might not be appealing to you.

Pros: Bad-ass metal music. Great vocalist and instrumentalists. You even get to learn the realities of life through the lyrics of their songs. They awaken your senses about issues we see in religion, the environment, life and death. Their songs are like horror movies summarized into 3 to 5 minute singles.

Top 5

1. Inside the Fire

This single from Disturbed discusses a very sensitive issue which is suicide. Nope, this is not a song made to encourage anyone to attempt this act, but for me, it gives us an idea on what goes on to the minds of those people who did or tried to suicide.

The song's lyrics and the way it was sung is like an interpretation on how the devil can lure a man into suicide, tugging on his strings of emotions-- despair, loneliness, missing someone, until he is convinced to do it.

This is a wake up call for people to put themselves in the shoes of suicide victims, what is going through in their minds which tells us during their saddest times, they need the help and caring from their loved ones.

2. Down With The Sickness

Another great metal hit from the band is Down with the Sickness. For the music listeners who are not aware, this song is also trying to tell us a very important message about physical abuse. This kind of abuse that goes on between a parent and a child.

Sometimes, a child cannot adapt too quickly with the changes around him/her as they grow up, they make mistakes, yet an unreasonable punishment of parents for their mistakes through violence do not even help but just gives them the feeling of hopelessness, being misunderstood and changing them to the worst they can be.

3. The Animal
I have to study the song carefully (in terms of lyrics) to be able to determine the best way to interpret its message. It can mean two things, first, a simple story that you can compare to a man's transportation into a hungry werewolf (or some kind of other creature) with animal primal instincts which are to hunt and eat.

The second interpretation I can say about the lyrics is... can this song be about rape? Or some uncontrollable lust? It is because of the lyrics, "When the kill is close and I will be satisfied. For the smell of fear tonight, wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied. You're mine.." and "For the animal's soul is mine and the world around will never hear your cries. An unholy crime, and now we both shall dine in Hell tonight."

Anyways, this came to our list not just for the creep in the lyrics but the bad-ass music and rhythm.

4. Another Way To Die

If we are making a top 5 based on lyrics only, this song might be placed in the first place. The beat, in your own blogger's opinion, is not as catchy as the first three on the list but in terms of lyrics, Another Way to Die has the best lyrics, it gives a very meaningful message that everyone around the world should be aware of. Everybody can relate to it too.

The song tells us about the improvement of our lives, new inventions, new technology, new lifestyles which affects our Mother Nature in the most negative way possible. Many of us feels the effect of the nature's destruction (global warming, pollution, etc) but we are still unable to satisfy ourselves from destroying the earth to fulfill our wants and needs for our own convenience.

So the question is "Can we repent in time?" before its too late.

5. Darkness

Darkness is a little way different from Disturbed's music style. They have been lighter on this one, and wow, it really is a good song to listen at!

This single from their album, Believe, is hard for me to interpret because in my own opinion, the lyrics can mean a different things in different situations, but a Youtube comment from GMoneyqdog gave me a better idea on how to interpret it.

Yes, it is like a death wish, words coming from a person about to die, but in my own opinion, a dying person saying these to his own son does not fit right, but a dying person saying these to God.

The speaker of the song prayed to God on his last days, and he said he "dare to believe over one last time" which means, he is returning his faith to Him. Why? Probably he's hoping to have a miracle to heal from his disease, he's asking for strength. It sounds like he has something important to do and when that is done,  "Then I'll let the darkness cover me, deny everything, slowly walk away to breathe again." This means, he's ready to die by letting the darkness cover him, right?

"To breathe again" ? Is this about reincarnation?
